extricate
Curated by Shanti Gelmi
Through transformative processes, this group of emerging artists take the printmaker’s craft beyond tradition. While maintaining the physical presence of the artist’s hand in the work, the artists reveal outcomes using non-traditional materials, scales and forms, following chance revelations and surprising serendipities into an expanded practice.
Extricate shifts printmaking into the sculptural realm, using light as a medium, playing with layered glass panes, found objects and mixed media, the artists combine plate and print and utilise surprising surfaces such as VHS tapes, photographic paper, ceramic and industrial materials.
PARTICIPATING ARTISTS

Expendable
Expendable teases out the memory and history of landscape with images and text taken from field notations. Combining photographic and screen-printing applications with kiln formed glass, Scaddan fuses together multiple transparent layers to assemble new, fragile fragmented landscapes.
Vestige
Found and gathered louvers and panes of glass provide a palette and a purpose to repurpose. Photographic details of textures found along the Darling Scarp are screen-printed onto the surfaces of these synthetic remains of the past.
